AWCIM Partners with LearnSkin to Expand Integrative Medicine Education into Dermatology
Apple Bodemer, MD, is the director of the new Integrative Medicine in Dermatology Fellowship and a graduate of the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine's Fellowship program.
TUCSON, Ariz. — The University of Arizona Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine (AWCIM) is collaborating with LearnSkin to help advance the growing field of integrative dermatology through the launch of the Integrative Medicine in Dermatology Fellowship (IMDF).
As part of the collaboration, AWCIM is contributing its Foundational Fellowship Curriculum (FFC) to the new fellowship, bringing broad, multidisciplinary integrative medicine education to dermatologists seeking advanced training in integrative care. The IMDF incorporates AWCIM’s foundational curriculum alongside specialized dermatology education developed by LearnSkin, creating an interdisciplinary educational model designed to equip practitioners with integrative, evidence-informed approaches to dermatologic practice.
"I am so incredibly proud to introduce the Integrative Medicine in Dermatology Fellowship program," says IMDF program director Apple Bodemer, MD, "It's the first of its kind that offers specially focused integrative medicine training with a pathway to board certification. This program provides high-quality, evidence-focused education on the use of integrative tools and the philosophy of integrative medicine for people with dermatologic concerns. It also builds connection within the integrative medicine community."
For AWCIM, the partnership represents an opportunity to extend the Center’s educational mission beyond traditional boundaries and help build the knowledge base and workforce needed for integrative medicine to continue growing across medical specialties.
"The Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine (AWCIM) is thrilled to partner with LearnSkin for their Integrative Dermatology Fellowship," said Ann Marie Chiasson, director of the Andrew Weil Center's Fellowship in Integrative Medicine. "This is the first Integrative Dermatology Fellowship both nationally and globally! Learn Skin is providing current cutting-edge dermatology training for practitioners wanting to learn and practice Integrative Dermatology and Integrative Medicine. AWCIM is partnering in this Fellowship to provide broad foundational Integrative Medicine training so the Learn Skin fellows will be able to sit for the Integrative Medicine Board exams through the American Board of Physician Specialties. We look forward to Learn Skin’s Integrative Dermatology Fellowship adding more expertly trained Integrative Practitioners into the field of Integrative Medicine and the specialty of Integrative Dermatology."
The IMDF is designed for board-certified dermatologists and will launch its founding cohort in May 2027. The program combines specialized dermatology-focused education with multidisciplinary integrative medicine topics, mentorship, research and live educational experiences. The full fellowship track includes more than 1,000 hours of education, including the Integrative Dermatology Curriculum, and provides eligibility to sit for the board certification examination in integrative medicine.
